Dean passed away on March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82, having remained largely private throughout his life, even while married to one of country music’s biggest stars. On Monday, Parton, 79, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, stating, "Carl Dean, husband of Dolly Parton, passed away March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82. In a 2024 interview on Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde podcast, she recounted how Dean declined to attend her BMI Song of the Year win in 1967, saying, "I wish you the best, but don’t ever ask me to go to another one of these damn things because I ain’t going." Reports in November 2024 indicated that Dean faced several health issues, including a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, high blood pressure, and a weak heart, which led him to lead a more home-centered life.
