McCarthy recounted the moment she realized Walters might be slipping, noting, “I was like, ‘Oh s—.’” She explained that this realization occurred shortly after she joined the show, causing a shift in the show’s focus back to politics from pop culture, stating, “Barbara knew politics, but she didn’t know pop culture.”
Walters left The View in 2014, nearly two decades after co-founding it, and passed away at 93 in 2022. In an Us Weekly interview, McCarthy mentioned how they find ways to keep their romance alive, revealing, “If someone has a Christmas party, we’re going to find the basement bathroom, take advantage of the moment.” Wahlberg reflected on a humorous memory from the 2014 Creative Arts Emmys, highlighting their commitment to maintaining their relationship’s spark: “We work at keeping it hot… We don’t take for granted that it’s been 10 years.”
