Gene Hackman Could Be ‘Difficult’ to Work With and Was ‘Really Rough’ on ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’ Dire

Speaking to The Associated Press, Murray, 74, described Hackman as “really good” but also a “tough nut.” He reflected on the challenges of working with Hackman, noting, “We can say it now, but he was a tough guy because older great actors do not give young directors much of a chance.”

Murray recalled instances of Hackman’s intensity on set, particularly during the filming of the 2001 film, where he was notably tough on director Wes Anderson.
