Birds in cages lined the runway at Cynthia Rowley’s Spring 2001 show, setting the stage for a birds and bees theme that was more "Grease" than ornithology. This collection explored 1950s American sportswear, offering a playful contrast between good girls and bad.

From full-skirted eyelet dresses and honeycomb knits to hand-painted leather and bomber jackets, Rowley captured the era’s diverse styles. "Good girls" could choose smocked tops, "bird watching" dresses, and boxy outerwear, while "bad girls" rocked dolman-sleeved tops and dresses that daringly fell off the shoulder. Neon accents, from eye shadow to shoe straps and soles, added a modern twist. The show culminated in a striking series of fluorescent string dresses.
