Will Smith spoke to ‘Extra’s’ Melvin Robert at the L.A. premiere of his new movie ‘Emancipation,’ which was inspired by the haunting 1863 images of ‘Whipped Peter.’ Will opened up about the messages of the movie, in which he plays a runaway slave, Peter, on a journey north to escape the plantation owners who nearly killed him. Will also reflected on the lessons he took away from his character about gratitude, plus the relationship between suffering and salvation. ‘Emancipation’ is in select theaters December 2 and on Apple TV+ December 9.
